Every year, festivals meant to spread joy turn into seasons of tragedy because of Chinese Manja and other hard, synthetic, glass-coated kite threads. These threads are not toys — they are weapons.

 

Despite existing bans in many states, these deadly threads continue to be manufactured, sold, and openly used, leading to thousands of avoidable deaths of humans and animals every year.

The Reality We Can No Longer Ignore

 

During Uttrayan alone, reported estimates show:

Human deaths: Around 10,000

  (Throat cuts, fatal road accidents, severe bleeding)

Bird deaths: Around 50,000

  (Neck entanglement, wing amputations, slow and painful deaths)

Dog deaths: Around 5,000

  (Threads stuck in mouth or ingested while running)

Cat deaths: Around 8,000

  (Fatal injuries while jumping from rooftops and buildings)

 

These are not accidents — they are the result of negligence and weak enforcement.

 

Why Chinese Manja Must Be Completely Banned

It is razor-sharp, stronger than steel, and often invisible

 It does not break, even at high speed

 It causes instant death or lifelong disability

 It is non-biodegradable and harms the environment

 It continues to be sold illegally for profit, despite known dangers

Our Clear and Non-Negotiable Demands

 

We demand that the Government take immediate and strict action, including:

 

1. Complete nationwide ban on Chinese Manja and all hazardous kite threads.

2. Minimum 6 years of imprisonment for:

 Anyone who manufactures such threads

   Anyone who sells, stores, or distributes them

   Anyone who uses them

3. Declaration of these offences as non-bailable, along with heavy fines.

4. Immediate seizure and destruction of illegal stock.

5. Strict market inspections and online sales monitoring.

6. Mandatory promotion and use of safe, biodegradable cotton thread only.

 

Festivals Should Not Kill

 

No celebration, tradition, or entertainment can justify:

A child losing a parent

A bird dying mid-flight

 A pet bleeding to death

 A stray animal suffering silently

 

If we remain silent today, we become part of the problem.
