Petition for Immediate Addressal of Health Code Violations at Urban Eatery
The Issue
Petition for Immediate Redressal of Health Code Violations at Drexel University - Urban Eatery by Aramark Corp
To Whom It May Concern,
We, the undersigned students, staff, and members of the Drexel University community, are deeply concerned about the recurring health code violations at the Urban Eatery, as highlighted in the recent Philadelphia Department of Health Food Facility Inspection Report dated February 28, 2024. The inspection identified significant issues, including improper cold holding temperatures, the presence of insects and rodents, and inadequately maintained non-food contact surfaces, among others.
The health and safety of our community are of utmost importance, and it is alarming that such conditions have been allowed to persist in a facility that serves as a primary dining option for many of us. The presence of these violations not only violates basic health and safety standards but also poses a significant risk of foodborne illnesses and other health hazards to students and staff alike.
Given the seriousness of these findings, we hereby petition the following:
Immediate Remedial Actions: We demand that immediate actions be taken to correct all the violations noted in the inspection report, with a detailed action plan and timeline made publicly available.
Regular Health Inspections: We request that the frequency of health inspections be increased, with the results of these inspections made transparent and accessible to the university community.
University Oversight: We call for the establishment of a university oversight committee to monitor food safety practices at all campus dining facilities, including regular audits and reports to the community.
Health and Safety Training: We propose that all Urban Eatery staff undergo mandatory health and safety training, to be refreshed annually, ensuring compliance with the highest standards of food handling and sanitation.
Open Communication: We urge the establishment of a direct channel of communication through which students and staff can report concerns regarding food safety and receive timely follow-ups.
Our health is not negotiable, and we trust that the University and Aramark Corporation will take swift action to address these concerns. We look forward to seeing prompt and effective measures implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of the Drexel University community.
Sincerely,
The Student
