We, the undersigned parents, student-athletes, alumni, and community members of Kealakehe High School, respectfully request that school administration and the Hawaii State Department of Education conduct a formal and thorough review of the current Athletic Director’s performance and actions, particularly regarding the Kealakehe wrestling program.

Over time, ongoing concerns have arisen surrounding leadership decisions, communication, and the overall management of the athletic department. These concerns have negatively impacted student-athletes, team morale, and trust within our school community.

Specifically, recent decisions involving the wrestling program have raised serious alarm. Events have reportedly been blocked, and the team has not been permitted to access funds that were legally and transparently raised by student-athletes and their families. These funds were generated through community fundraising efforts and family contributions with the clear understanding that they would directly benefit the wrestling program. Preventing access to these resources has created frustration, instability, and hardship for student-athletes who worked diligently to support their own team.

There have also been growing concerns regarding the treatment of the wrestling team and its coaches. Actions directed toward this program have created tension and uncertainty, leading many families to feel that the team is being unfairly targeted. When a single program faces repeated obstacles, it impacts not only competition opportunities, but also student confidence, morale, and the integrity of the athletic department as a whole.

High school athletics in Hawaii should promote fairness, transparency, consistency, and equal treatment across all sports. Student-athletes deserve a supportive, organized, and professionally managed environment that prioritizes safety, development, and opportunity.

Our wrestling athletes deserve:

• Fair and equal treatment
• Supportive and professional oversight
• Access to funds raised on their behalf
• A stable environment that allows them
• to focus on growth and competition

We respectfully request:

• A formal investigation into the handling of wrestling program events and team-raised funds
• Clear communication regarding policies governing athletic fundraising and fund allocation
• Immediate resolution ensuring student-athletes can access funds raised for their program
• A comprehensive review of leadership practices within the athletic department
• Consideration of leadership changes if deemed necessary

This petition is not intended as a personal attack, but as a call for accountability, transparency, and equitable treatment for all student-athletes. Our goal is positive change and the restoration of trust within our athletic community.

We stand in full support of the Kealakehe wrestling team and its coaches and ask that immediate action be taken to restore fairness, stability, and integrity to our school’s athletic programs.
