PETITION FOR FAIR OFFICIATING, ACCURATE STATISTICS, AND EQUAL TREATMENT IN

PETITION FOR FAIR OFFICIATING, ACCURATE STATISTICS, AND EQUAL TREATMENT IN
The Issue
To WNBA Leadership, the Officiating Department, Team Leadership, and Coaches:
We, the undersigned fans of the WNBA, are calling on league leadership to address growing concerns regarding the treatment of Angel Reese on the basketball court.
Over the course of her WNBA career, many fans have observed a troubling pattern in which Angel Reese appears to be subjected to excessive physical contact, hard fouls, and aggressive play that often goes unaddressed by officials. While basketball is a physical sport, player safety should never be compromised through inconsistent officiating or a failure to enforce the rules equally.
Many fans believe that Angel Reese receives a level of physical treatment that would not be tolerated if directed toward other players. Whether these incidents result from inconsistent officiating, missed calls, or broader issues within the league, the outcome remains the same: a talented athlete is repeatedly placed in situations that increase the risk of injury while receiving insufficient protection from officials.
This petition is not a request for special treatment.
It is a request for equal treatment.
We are asking the WNBA to ensure that Angel Reese is afforded the same level of protection, respect, and enforcement of league rules that every player deserves.
Specifically, we call upon the WNBA to:
1. Conduct a review of officiating involving repeated incidents of excessive contact directed toward Angel Reese.
2. Increase transparency regarding the evaluation of missed calls, flagrant fouls, and dangerous plays involving player safety.
3. Strengthen officiating accountability measures when player safety is compromised.
4. Reaffirm the league’s commitment to protecting all athletes from unnecessary physical risk.
5. Ensure that rules are applied consistently regardless of a player’s popularity, media coverage, marketability, team affiliation, or public perception.
Angel Reese is one of the most recognizable and influential young stars in women’s basketball. Fans should be able to watch her compete knowing that the league is committed to enforcing the rules fairly and protecting the health and safety of all players.
The WNBA has worked hard to grow the game and attract new audiences. That growth depends on maintaining trust in the integrity of competition and demonstrating that player safety remains a top priority.
We respectfully ask the WNBA to acknowledge these concerns, review current officiating practices, and take meaningful steps to ensure that Angel Reese—and all players—receive fair and consistent treatment on the court.
Sign this petition if you believe player safety, accountability, and fairness should never depend on who the player is.
Signed,
Fans of Angel Reese, WNBA Fans, and Supporters of Fair Competition
