We, the undersigned, are calling for fair and predictable hourly compensation for app-based delivery drivers, including drivers working with DoorDash, Uber, Uber Eats, Instacart, and similar platforms.

Thousands of Canadians rely on app-based delivery work to support themselves and their families. Drivers provide essential services by delivering groceries, meals, and other goods while using their own vehicles, fuel, insurance, phones, and personal time.

However, many drivers currently face unpredictable earnings and may spend significant amounts of unpaid time waiting for orders, travelling between deliveries, or dealing with cancellations and low-paying requests.

We are asking for:

A guaranteed minimum hourly rate for active working time, including reasonable waiting time between accepted orders.
Fair compensation for driving distance, recognizing fuel, vehicle maintenance, depreciation, insurance, and other operating expenses.
Transparent pay calculations, so drivers can clearly understand how their earnings are determined before accepting work.
Protection from unfairly low-paying orders that do not reasonably compensate drivers for their time and expenses.
Fair treatment of independent and gig workers, while preserving the flexibility that attracts many people to app-based work.
Government standards or regulations ensuring that gig-economy workers are not required to absorb unreasonable business costs while earning below a fair living wage.
Our Position

We believe drivers should not have to choose between flexibility and fair compensation.

If a driver is spending hours available for work, using their own vehicle, paying for fuel and maintenance, and providing an essential service, their earnings should provide a reasonable minimum return for their time and expenses.

We call upon governments and companies such as DoorDash, Uber, Uber Eats, and Instacart to work toward a fair compensation system that guarantees drivers a reasonable hourly income while maintaining flexibility.
