Petition for Extension on Midterm Exam

Petition for Extension on Midterm Exam
The Issue
We, the undersigned students of Accounting 2110-08-43803, respectfully request an extension on the upcoming midterm exam, currently scheduled for 3/13/2025. We believe that several factors have significantly hindered our ability to adequately prepare for this assessment, and as such, an extension is necessary to ensure a fair and accurate evaluation of our understanding.
Our concerns stem from the following issues:
Inadequate Teaching:
We have experienced inconsistencies and a lack of clarity in the instruction provided during lectures. For example, Professor Jin has been corrected multiple times by students for incorrect calculations when teaching about adjusting and creating balance and income statements. Several students have repeatedly asked for clarification on the topic previously stated, but the answers have been consistently vague or not answered at all.
We haven’t learned enough of the material to adequately pass this class with a true grade because we have not been receiving feedback about what is right or wrong on our homework.
Lack of Timely Homework Grading:
We have submitted numerous homework assignments, but as of 3/13/2025, we have not received adequate feedback or grades for 6 homework assignments. This lack of feedback has prevented us from identifying and addressing our weaknesses and understanding the material effectively.
The first assignment that was turned in was on January 25th, 2025.
The class has turned in 6 homework assignments, 6 were graded but no feedback at all was given. The only feedback we have received was that he had gotten the homework assignment.
We understand the importance of timely assessments, but we believe that the aforementioned issues have created an unfair and disadvantageous learning environment. We request that you grant us an extension of 14 days on the midterm exam to allow us sufficient time to:
Review and clarify the discrepancies of the taught material.
Seek additional resources and support to address the gaps in our understanding.
Receive and review feedback on our homework assignments.
We are committed to our success in this course and believe that this extension will provide us with a fair opportunity to demonstrate our knowledge.
We respectfully request a prompt response to this petition.
