Petition for Electoral Reform in Nigeria To Allow Electronic Voting
Why this petition matters

Current electoral practices in Nigeria have normalised various forms of rigging, including suppression of votes, victimization of voters and falsification of results, leading to the emergence of illegitimate, corrupt and incompetent leadership. All these often happen with impunity.
This petition seeks to change the electoral malpractices through amendments to the current laws governing electioneering in Nigeria to make our elections safe, free and fair, transparent, participatory and to enforce accountability.
The key provisions we want in the new electoral law include:
(i) ALL accreditation of voters should be done electronically and smart card readers should be recognised by our laws;
(ii) ALL collation of votes by accredited voters should be done electronically at the polling units in the presence of all willing voters and agents;
(iii) ALL transmission of votes collated from the polling units should be done electronically to a national or state electronic register and database;
(iv) INEC should be empowered to adopt electronic and digital voting, first in pilot phases before 2023 and then mainstreamed fully by 2027;
(v) In the instance that INEC will adopt digital voting processes, the diasporans who are registered in their jurisdictions of residence should be extended suffrage in Nigeria and by 2023, diasporans should be able to exercise their political franchise in Nigerian elections digitally.
This petition seeks one million Nigerian signatures.
