Firstly we'd like to thank all of the 806 who signed the petition, and secondly, to apologise that it's taken this long. Since starting the petition, the Parish Council showed concern and dismay at the wording of the petition and that it hadn't been submitted to them. It was never intended to be submitted to them, given that it calls for an independent review of the obvious shortcomings of their own project. In July 2024, there was an initial interest in meeting to discuss the points raised in the petition. In order for this meeting to take place, the Parish Council asked to see the petition as evidence of concern. Unsurprisingly, their first actions were to try to discredit the petition, stating for example that not all signatories were village residents and therefore it did not reflect a true view. It's important to bear in mind that the whole traffic calming project was started on the basis of 841 respondents to a hand delivered questionnaire from the Traffic Management Working Party (TMWP) within the Parish Council, also noting that 157 of these respondents were from outside the village. After this initial fact finding meeting, the Parish Council imposed a number of 'red lines', or conditions that must be met before further meetings would take place. These conditions were farcical and so no further discussions were had. In addition, the Parish Council had forwarded a copy of the petition to KCC. We spoke to KCC and asked them to 'hold fire' temporarily. After the significant changes in the recent County Council elections, it has been decided to re-submit the petition to KCC for an independent review. Whilst there is no guarantee that this will generate the changes that we hope for, we will at least be heard at an appropriate level.
