Shadow Minister for the Environment Nick McGowan MP, addressed the Victorian Environment Minister, The Hon. Enver Erdogan in Parliament last Wednesday evening mentioning the East Gippsland Waters Kangaroo cull.
The pressure is on to ask The Environment Minister Enver Erdogan to halt and investigate this permit. A big thank you to Nick McGowan MP for his passion for the Environment and being a voice for the voiceless, speaking out for Australia's kangaroos.
Coincidentally a day later, we received a letter from East Gippsland Waters Managing Director, Michael Wandmaker to say, "the program is now complete a minimum number of kangaroos have been removed in accordance with the permit conditions"
Prior to this, no correspondence has been received addressing our concerns. Our requests for honest transparency, a request for a pause and review have been ignored.
Given the ATCW (authority to control wildlife) permit is current for 12 months and the date obtained is unknown, we cannot assume this information in the letter, to be 100% true and factual.
One inconsistency around questioning this is,
The letter received by residents in April clearly states signage will be placed on property boundaries for public safety. This has not been seen at any of the properties.
East Gippsland Water have not been transparent; we do not know what the permit conditions are.
We need to continue to advocate and be a voice for the kangaroos peacefully living, where they belong.
We are advocating for the ATCW permit to kill kangaroos now be fully revoked. We won't accept anything less.
