Petition for Dr. Peter Koza's Immediate Resignation

The Issue

After the unimaginably horrifying news from Moore School (and beyond), it is clear we have an absolute and complete failure of leadership at UDTS. The administration knew since Monday and all parents have received (as of 11/03) was a robo-call recorded message saying children were not directly involved. Children potentially ingesting food contaminated by bodily fluids and bleach is certainly direct contact and the affected children are victims of a sex crime. Counselors and therapists should have been brought into the school. The students of Woodruff School found out via cell phones while in class and were beside themselves with no support from the school. The schools were not closed for deep cleaning and no guidance was given as to how to mitigate potential health affects. It is unimaginable children were required to eat in the cafeteria were these crimes took place all week. Dr. Koza avoided the question when asked if food is shared between schools and so has intentionally limited parent's ability to understand the scope of affected students. The health department was only contacted on 11/02. Our children deserve support and parents deserve transparency. Instead, parents were met with false information and children were met with revictimization. In the wake of Dr. Peter Koza's ongoing botched response to this crisis, the residents of Upper Deerfield Township request his immediate resignation as superintendent.

UPDATE 11/06: Due to our advocacy efforts, Moore School was cleaned by a third-party professional cleaning company over the weekend and counselors are being brought into the schools. Our children should not have been allowed in the schools until this cleaning had been done and these services were in place. We should not have had to fight for this common sense response but it seems we will have to do just that every step of the way. We know the janitor had access to all three schools. On 11/03, well after the school was aware of the crimes were committed, Dr. Koza still saw it fit to host a Veteran's Day breakfast and a school dance. As of 11/06, Woodruff and Seabrook have NOT been professionally cleaned by a third-party company.

Update 11/07: UDTS has just announced they are going to have Seabrook and Woodruff Schools professionally cleaned on Thursday and Friday (11/09 & 11/10). Additional counselors are also still in the schools. This is a partial win for our children, our community, and our advocacy efforts. This is not something we should have had to fight for and the delay of this cleaning (over a week while children were still in the schools) is unacceptable. The 'business as usual' response was an administrative failure.  In these dark days of attempting to process this tragedy while fighting with administration for common sense measures, we have to continue to show the strength of our numbers and the solidarity among us.
