Montgomery Fire/Rescue firefighters and paramedics risk their lives daily to protect our city. We’ve taken on more responsibilities—patient transports, medical calls, and rising run volume—yet our pay still lags behind comparable cities and even our own police department. The Montgomery City Council, in September of 2024, approved the FY2025 budget, which included: • 15% raise for police officers • 5% cost-of-living adjustment for all other city employees These raises prove that funding for fair pay is possible when the priority is there. Firefighters, however, have yet to receive a competitive increase, despite staffing shortages and burnout. Why now? Montgomery is growing, and public safety demands are growing with it. If we want to keep experienced firefighters, reduce overtime strain, and ensure rapid emergency response, the city must act now.
