Petition for Animal Protection in Matanao, Davao del Sur: "PawPrints of Change"

The Issue

I, the concerned and pet lover residence of Matanao, Davao del Sur, along with the countless animals that share our community, are suffering due to the growing issues of neglect, cruelty, and environmental destruction. Stray dogs and cats roam the streets, hungry, sick, and often injured, while abandoned pets face heartbreaking mistreatment with little intervention. Wildlife, too, is struggling—illegal poaching and deforestation are rapidly destroying their natural habitats, upsetting the delicate balance of our environment. These problems don’t just affect animals; they impact our community’s health, safety, and overall well-being.

If we allow these issues to persist, the consequences will only worsen. The unchecked stray population will lead to more cases of disease, accidents, and even conflicts between animals and humans. Without strong enforcement of animal welfare laws, cruelty will continue to go unpunished, sending a message that abuse is acceptable. However, there is a clear path forward. By establishing an Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, launching a spay and neuter program, and ensuring strict enforcement of Republic Act No. 8485 (The Animal Welfare Act), we can create a safer and more humane environment for both animals and people. A dedicated Municipal Animal Response Team can act swiftly against abuse, while educational campaigns will help instill a culture of responsible pet ownership and wildlife protection.

We cannot afford to wait any longer. Every day that passes means more suffering, more animals left to fend for themselves, and greater risks to our community. This is our chance to take meaningful action and build a future where compassion and responsibility guide our treatment of animals. By signing this petition, we stand together in demanding urgent solutions. Let’s leave our "PawPrints of Change" today and make Matanao a place where kindness and care define how we treat all living beings.
