Petition for Action: Safe Schools for Every Student in Basehor Linwood
The Issue
Our children deserve to feel safe physically, emotionally, and mentally every single day they walk into school.
Unfortunately, too many parents across the Basehor Linwood School District have experienced the opposite: inconsistent handling of bullying and behavioral incidents, unclear communication, and a lack of accountability when district policies are ignored or applied unevenly.
We believe our schools can do better.
We are calling on the Basehor Linwood Board of Education to take immediate, transparent, and student-centered action to ensure the safety and well-being of every child by:
1. Revising District Policies and Disciplinary Procedures
Establish clear, consistent, and transparent guidelines that prioritize student safety, equity, and accountability. Ensure that staff, students, and parents understand how incidents are handled and what protections are in place for all students.
2. Including Parent and Community Representation in Policy Development
Allow parents, guardians, and community members to actively participate in the review and revision of district policies and disciplinary procedures. Their voices and lived experiences are essential to creating policies that reflect the needs, values, and safety of the families they serve.
3. Adopting and Implementing Policy Revisions with Defined Timelines
Review and adopt the proposed revisions developed collaboratively by parents, educators, and behavioral professionals in our community. Establish a clear, time-managed implementation plan with measurable benchmarks to ensure progress. Allow for special board or committee meetings when urgent concerns arise so that necessary changes can be made swiftly, rather than delayed until the next scheduled session.
4. Committing to Transparency and Open Dialogue
Foster ongoing two way communication between parents, staff, and administration so that every voice is heard, every concern is addressed, and no child’s safety issue is ever minimized or dismissed.
This is not about blame. It is about accountability, collaboration, and compassion.
Together, we can build a stronger, safer, and more responsive school system that protects all students, empowers families, and models integrity and empathy at every level.
Every signature represents a parent, grandparent, educator, or community member who believes our kids deserve better.
Let us show the Board that we are united in our call for meaningful change.
Together, we can make Basehor Linwood a model district for safety, accountability, and care.
