🚦 PETITION FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR IMPROVED TRAFFIC CONTROL ON AUDUBON DRIVE NEAR BERNHEIM
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents, parents, drivers, and concerned members of the Shepherdsville community, are asking officials to take immediate action to address the dangerous traffic conditions on Audubon Drive near Bernheim Middle School.
Every school day, drivers experience significant delays trying to exit the school area. Waiting 30 minutes just to safely pull out is unreasonable, and the congestion creates potentially dangerous situations for students, parents, school staff, and other motorists.
There have been multiple close calls involving vehicles attempting to exit while traffic continues to move through the area. Drivers are becoming frustrated, and unsafe decisions behind the wheel can put innocent people at risk. These conditions should not have to continue until a serious accident occurs.
WE ARE ASKING FOR ACTION BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT.
We respectfully request that the appropriate officials:
- Conduct a traffic safety assessment of Audubon Drive near Bernheim Middle School.
- Evaluate the installation of a traffic signal at the appropriate location.
- Consider operating a traffic signal during school arrival and dismissal hours, such as 7–9 a.m. and 3–5 p.m., if appropriate based on the assessment.
- Consider other immediate traffic-control measures to improve safe access to and from the school.
- Provide the community with a response explaining what steps can be taken and when action may occur.
Our children, families, school employees, and community members deserve to travel this roadway safely. We should not have to worry about a preventable collision simply because traffic cannot move safely and efficiently.
We understand that traffic improvements require evaluation and planning. However, we ask that this concern be taken seriously and addressed proactively rather than waiting for a tragedy to happen.
