The issue

Hi! Our names are Van and Daisy Brown. We are 9 and 7 and we live in Buderim, and LOVE to skateboard! Buderim is one of the many beautiful towns on the Sunshine Coast. There is only one small problem - there is no skate / scooter space dedicated for the young people to enjoy. This is why we are asking you to sign our petition to show our community leaders how much of a necessity a skatepark is for kids in Buderim.

Why should there be a skatepark in Buderim?

  • Skateparks are vibrant hubs that foster and sustain healthy communities and promote unity.
  • Skateboarding encourages physical fitness and mental discipline. It offers young people an opportunity to engage in outdoor exercise that can improve self-esteem and build confidence.
  • The Sunshine Coast boasts a thriving and passionate skateboarding community that deserves support and a space to hone their skills.
  • With skateboarding set to be featured in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, we should cultivate and nurture local skateboarding talent.
  • While Buderim is actively focused on expanding gated aged care facilities for retirees, it is important not to overlook the needs of its younger residents. A skatepark provides an essential physical space for scooter and skateboard riders, promoting active and healthy lifestyles.
  • Many neighbouring areas with lower population densities, such as Kunda Park and Sippy Downs, have skateparks.
  • Skateparks often attract visitors from neighbouring areas, boosting local businesses such as cafes, and other retail outlets.
