Summary & Background: As residents and institutions of the 18th Ward, we are tired of the excessive use of train horns on the Norfolk Southern (NS) and CSX Railways. The horns are unnecessary, intrusive, a health issue and devalue properties in the area. They are so loud they can be heard from miles away and sleeping through the entire night is never possible. They destroy the peacefulness of our Ashburn Community.

In addition, train engines park next to our homes causing rumbling to our foundations and belching diesel fumes sometimes all night long into our windows.

We propose that train horns only be used when there is an imminent risk to human or animal life on the tracks.  We also propose that the train engines park/idle away from homes; for example, either by commercial properties, parks, cemeteries, or in the NS & CSX railroad yards.

If you too are tired of the train horns and idling trains, please sign our petition and advise others who are concerned to do the same. Please only sign ONE petition, either the hard copy or this electronic copy.

Action: We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to allow the following crossings to be a Quiet Zone CSX 283-144K, CSX 283-145S, CSX 283-146Y, NS Pedestrian Crossing, NS 478-750H, NS 478-751P, NS 478-752W AND to ban train engines from idling next to homes in this area (from 79th St. to 87th St. and Pulaski Rd. to Damen Ave.).
