Petition for a pump track in Welland park.
The Issue
Growing up in Harborough, some of my most cherished memories revolve around biking with friends, but sadly we have never had anywhere to do it so we built are own and it got removed 3 times. But we were so determined because we just wanted somewhere to ride and have fun in the outdoors.
Not only did these experiences teach me essential biking skills, but they also fostered lifelong friendships and developed a sense of community.
Thats where a pump track comes in, and would be perfect in Harborough.
However, the current skatepark in our welland park is far from what it should and could be. It’s outdated old and unused. Instead of serving as a safe place for kids to gather and learn bikes skills which are vital for every kid to have in my eyes.
At the moment it has become a hazardous and unwelcoming space, but has so much potential for the youth of another harborough.
Its importance is also creating future pros, which this small town seems to be good at as we have created Jude jones and Jayden Sherman through are skateparks, so we should be encouraging the youth of today to embrace the outdoors and ride there bikes, not sit inside on iPads.
The skatepark's crumbling infrastructure and questionable safety standards pose risks to our children, deterring them from visiting and learning skills and making friends.
Moreover, it has become a gathering spot for individuals whose presence makes it unsafe, discouraging families and young enthusiasts from using the space for healthy, recreational purposes.
It's time to reimagine this area and transform it into a pump-track that students and families can truly enjoy .
Pump-tracks are proven to be safer choices for developing biking skills and fostering social interaction.
Extensive case studies in communities that have invested in pump-tracks show a significant increase in outdoor activity among youth and a decrease in undesirable behaviours.
Imagine a place where kids of all ages feel encouraged to meet, learn, and hone their biking skills in a secure environment. The benefits extend beyond recreation and exercise. Developing biking skills increases confidence, promotes physical health, and strengthens friendships.
Implementing a pump-track in Harborough would be amazing and working with young people who would use it will be vital in my opinion so that we can be focusing on safety, usability, and inclusivity, we can ensure kids have a truly beneficial space—outdoors and active.
Join me in advocating for a safe and engaging pump-track in Harborough that will preserve the thrill of biking and channel it into a community-building experience for our children.
By signing this petition, you help us move one step closer to a safer and more engaging and inclusive place for the youth of Market Harborough to engage in the outdoors and not on iPads.
