PETITION FOR A NEW DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT WITHIN THE MANITOBA MÉTIS FEDERATION

The Issue

To: The Red River Métis Citizens and the Governing Bodies of Canada

We, the undersigned Red River Métis Citizens, call for the immediate establishment of a new, democratically elected government within the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF).

For too long, our self-government has strayed from the values of our ancestors—those who fought for Métis rights, justice, and self-determination. The current leadership, through decades of unchecked power, has fostered a system of nepotism, fraud, bribery, and exclusion that directly harms our people. We can no longer stand by while our Nation is governed through undemocratic and unjust means.

Our Grievances Include:

 • No fair and transparent elections in over 30 years, silencing the voice of the Métis people.

 • Bribery and fraudulent practices that prioritize certain classes of citizens over others.

 • Nepotism—jobs, funding, and opportunities are handed to family and friends rather than qualified Métis citizens.

 • Fraudulent citizenship approvals, granting Métis status and funding to individuals who do not practice, uphold, or belong to our culture—some with no ancestral connection after the 1800s. This waters down what it truly means to be indigenous.

 • Exploitation of Métis workers, with wages that do not reflect the cost of living or the contributions of our people.

 • Dictatorial governance, where power is held by a select few instead of being distributed among the people.

We Demand:

 1. A fair and transparent election process, overseen by an independent electoral body, to ensure that every Red River Métis Citizen has a voice in choosing our leadership.

 2. A new president and government that are not part of the current leadership (President or Vice-Presidents)—fresh leadership that represents the true interests of our people.

 3. Strict governance and accountability measures to prevent corruption, nepotism, and fraudulent citizenship approvals.

 4. A renewed commitment to Métis values, culture, and way of life, ensuring that funding, programs, and opportunities serve all Métis citizens fairly.

 5. Economic fairness—wages that reflect the value of Métis workers and opportunities distributed based on merit, not political loyalty.

Why This Matters:

The Red River Métis fought for self-governance—not for a dictatorship. The MMF exists to serve all Métis people, not just an elite few. A government that does not listen to its people is no government at all. The time for change is now.

By signing this petition, you stand for democracy, justice, and the future of the Red River Métis. We demand a government that is by the people, for the people
