Kia ora anō everybody,

Our petition is nearing its goal. Soon it will be time for it to close.

We’ve been overwhelmed by the amazing support which has enabled us reach this point in just five short days. So what comes next?

You are showing NZNO decision-makers what must be done. Ringing out from your hundreds of comments is a cry from the heart of the membership.

You say, we’re sick of being kept in the dark and treated like children. We want an end to years of division and secret agendas at the top, paid for by our fees.. We have had enough.

Amid personal attacks, racial animosity and false calls for unity, our petition is providing the hope of a fresh start.

We’ve gone through and checked every signature. By our tally, over 1,500 NZNO members are calling for a motion of no confidence in the Board. That’s more than the number who voted for some of the six remaining Board members.

Petition supporters come from every part of NZNO – from the DHBs, Primary Health, Private Hospitals and Aged Care; from every NZNO Region; from Te Rūnanga o Aotearoa NZNO, from our professional Colleges and Sections and the National Student Unit.

We have NZNO National Delegates, Regional Councillors, College and Section Committee Members, four past Presidents and former members of Te Poari, the Rūnanga’s governing body.

This is real unity in action – unity that’s powerful enough to salvage NZNO’s professionalism, focus our union back on the members and restore our battered bicultural partnerships.

There are two things you can do now to build this power:

1. Share this petition with your fellow NZNO members, so they can add their voice before it closes and make the call even louder

2. Add your NZNO membership number to your signature to show you’re real, if you haven’t already, by following the instructions here: http://tiny.cc/4kwsoz

The Special General Meeting of NZNO must be called within 30 days of the petition being submitted.

At that SGM, democracy must not be stymied. Our next update will explain what you can do to make sure that all NZNO members get a say and democracy prevails.

Kia kaha!
