Petition for a Maryland Day of Awareness of the Homelessness Crisis
Petition for a Maryland Day of Awareness of the Homelessness Crisis
The Issue
Dear champions of hope & justice and all those who believe in a better world,
Your help is needed.
One way to help (and it’s free) is to sign this petition!
It is no secret that homelessness is a scourge in our society; Its tentacles reach far into our communities - undermining economic growth, destroying families, and leaving a trail of hopelessness that is hard to comprehend.
This crisis has reached an alarming level. Every year, an unknown number of people experience homelessness, and the numbers continue to rise at an alarming rate. This issue affects not only those who are homeless but also our communities as a whole. It is time for us to acknowledge the severity of this crisis and take concrete actions to end this nightmare.
We believe that we need a collective effort from our government and society as a whole, and our Governor can provide leadership in this matter.
Therefore, we are asking for your support in petitioning the Maryland Governor to adopt October 10th as the Maryland Day of Awareness of the Homelessness Crisis. World Homeless Day is observed every year on October 10th, which is a main reason we chose this date.
This day will serve to bring attention to the homeless epidemic, provide an opportunity for people to rethink what they know about the issue, and inspire actions to address this urgent problem. It will raise awareness and educate the public on homelessness, its causes, and the impact it has on individuals and society as a whole.
Many people who experience homelessness struggle to access basic necessities like food, healthcare, and shelter. The unhoused face constant fear, prejudice, and discrimination. Homelessness also contributes to the breakdown of families and leads to mental and physical health issues, as well as other social and economic issues.
Homelessness can happen to anyone at any time, and we must collectively take responsibility and support each other.
By designating a Maryland Day of Awareness of the Homelessness Crisis, we can bring attention to these issues, increase empathy, foster compassion, and motivate people to take action. The day can serve as a platform for public events, awareness-raising activities, fundraising, and volunteer opportunities.
Furthermore, this day would be an opportunity to urge lawmakers to take action to address the homelessness crisis. We need comprehensive policies that focus on affordable housing, access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities. With a state day of awareness, we can highlight these issues and demand change from those in power.
As a state, we have the power to make a difference. Let us come together to address the homelessness crisis and adopt a Maryland Day of Awareness of the Homelessness Crisis on October 10th. We owe it to ourselves and our fellow Marylanders to do all that we can to help those who are experiencing homelessness.
We are all human.
Please sign this petition and join us in urging the Maryland Governor to officially recognize October 10th as the Maryland Day of Awareness of the Homelessness Crisis.
Your signature is more than just ink and paper; it's a statement of solidarity, a commitment to fighting for the dignity and security of all people.
Let us unite on October 10th each year to raise awareness, advocate for change, and ultimately end the homelessness crisis in Maryland.
Together, we can end homelessness.
Thank you for your support!
