The Community Maternity Services project (a sub project of the Logan Together Project) has identified ways to further improve access to and the experience of support, healthcare and parent education services for parents from early in pregnancy, through birth, and up to the end of the first year of life.

In Logan approximately 1 in 10 women have little or no contact with support services and healthcare services during pregnancy. There are currently 3500 to 4000 births a year at Logan Hospital. Research conducted by Metro South Health shows that around one quarter of all birthing women presenting at Logan Hospital are from a Maori and Pacific Island cultural background.

In response to this need the main strategy identified by the team is the establishment of Community Maternity Hubs to be run from out of the community. The hubs will provide pre and post birth support services using a relationship based long term continuity of care model.

Hosanna Logan City has been identified as a possible Hub site. Hosanna has a membership that is 90% Maori and Pacific Island.  Hosanna Logan City are committed to see Maori and Pacific people access these services through adopting a holistic approach and ensuring the services are culturally safe.
