Since the day he traded the franchise player, Nico Harrison has caused an eruption of controversy with his decision. Luka Donćič, a top 5 player in the league was just traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in return for Anthony Davis. This trade did not inform any players or coaches about this decision. This decision not only set back the Dallas Mavericks by 10 years, but also created heavy criticism and a loss of fans on both sides. Nico’s brash and outlandish choice has destroyed a legacy. Luka was a generational talent that averaged 30-35 points per game while only currently being out after straining a calf muscle. On the other hand, Anthony Davis has a long history of injuries and averaged about 10 points less than Luka. Harrison has destroyed the entire Mavs playstyle. In about 5-6 years, the “best” players which include Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, and now Anthony Davis, will retire, leaving the rest of the team to fend for themselves with little veteran mentoring. Luka was the backbone of the team and was traded for a horrible counterpart. However, Nico’s argument was that Luka was showing signs of conditioning issues. This argument is not valid however, as his injury has lasted for a while, and he averages more points than any other player in the team, showing that “conditioning issues” should not be a concern. When the 2029 draft pick now belonging to the Dallas Mavs is finally chosen, the team will have no one to build around. Luka, a playmaker, was an incredible athlete who revolutionized the entire Maverick’s franchise. Worst of all, Luka did not request any trades or had any concern over leaving the team stating “I want to retire as a Mav,” in a previous interview. Unfortunately, the Mavericks now have lineup issues now having 3 big men. Nico Harrison’s decision has damaged the organization without repair. Nico Harrison should be terminated for this embarrassing and shameful decision. Not only laughing at the interview, but not consulting Jason Kidd, the head coach, or Luka, the star player, is abhorrent. To conclude, Nico Harrison is a disgraceful GM who should be immediately fired.
