Support Our Petition to Ensure Baseball’s Future at Kilmer Park!

For over 65 years, Lynn Valley Little League (LVLL) has proudly provided top-quality baseball programs, serving over 700 children just last season. Our home field, Kilmer Park, located at 1700 Dempsey Road, has long been a vibrant hub for the local community. On summer weekends, it's common to see as many as ten teams playing simultaneously, with families cheering on from the stands and a lively concession stand offering refreshments for all.

The District of North Vancouver (DNV) is currently planning to install turf on the lower gravel field at Kilmer Park. While we at LVLL support this initiative, as it will enhance the playing conditions for some of our youngest athletes, we have concerns about the current concept.

As shown in the draft image below, the proposed plan places a stronger emphasis on soccer, with the design clearly prioritizing that sport. We believe this design overlooks Kilmer Park’s long-standing primary role as a baseball field and community space for our sport. We are asking the DNV to adjust their plans to reflect Kilmer Park’s historical and primary use as a baseball field, ensuring it continues to serve our young baseball players for years to come.

We urge the DNV to address two critical issues:

Enhance Baseball Diamond Markings
The current design emphasizes soccer at the expense of baseball. We request a revision to make the baseball diamond lines more visible and prominent. This change is crucial for the hundreds of young baseball players who use the field throughout the season.

Install Baseball Dugouts
Dugouts along the diamond are essential and standard in baseball. They provide necessary protection for players, coaches, and their equipment. Including dugouts in the design will ensure the field meets the safety and functional needs of our baseball community.

The voice of the Lynn Valley baseball community must be heard in this process. We ask for your support by signing this petition to show the District of North Vancouver that baseball deserves a prominent place in Kilmer Park's future. Together, we can ensure that this field continues to be a home for baseball for generations to come.
