The goal of future legislation should be to eliminate unwanted sex, unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortions, and to teach and enforce respect. I don't think it was the intent of Roe v. Wade to deny anyone personhood. I believe the goal was safe abortions for women who would seek unsafe abortions. The Court took away rights to insure rights, which is contradictory and unnecessary. Our right to personhood is the basis for all our rights. We all have dependencies to stay alive, like breathable air, so it shouldn't be possible to cite Roe v. Wade as a reason to deny people clean air because their need proves they aren't persons.
With DNA evidence, it seems like women should be spared having to appear in court to get a conviction in rape cases. Women may choose not to file rape charges because they assume the man knows he was wrong, but I sat on the jury where it was rape, and the man didn't know it. I would have chosen a lesser charge like unintentional rape so maybe there should be more options, but he had to be taught he made a mistake. Roe v. Wade opened the door to destroy evidence that could be used in a future rape case.
The comment that women need to learn to protect themselves is so important. It should be our government's responsibility, but we can't make that assumption. A woman should take care not to be alone with a man, if she doesn't don't want to have sex with him even though she has a Constitutional right not to be raped. Women need to call law enforcement as soon as sexual harassment starts.
