The petition has reached 1,087 online signatures and will be submitted to Flintshire County Council this week. Tensions in the area are increasing, and some of the disagreements between different viewpoints have become quite unpleasant. Community members who have supported the call for a public briefing—and who have peacefully sought clearer information from the authorities—report being subjected to hostile or malicious communications. In several cases, this has caused significant distress, including impacts on individuals’ mental health. These residents have simply been exercising their right to free speech and asking for transparency.
The group Fighting Our Government – We Need Answers has stated openly that they are not opposed to welcoming genuine refugees, nor are they opposed to Muslims. Their concerns relate specifically to what they believe to be insufficiently managed arrivals of undocumented individuals being processed in a facility they consider unsuitable for the area, due to safety, infrastructure, and wider community-impact factors.
Many community members believe that had the authorities provided a briefing when it was first requested—rather than declining—it might have reduced the level of division and distress that has since developed.
