PETITION CALLING FOR TRAFFIC SAFETY MEASURES IN PEVENSEY AND IN WESTHAM
The Issue
We the undersigned call on East Sussex County Council to urgently implement improved traffic safety measures on the B2191 from Pevensey High Street junction with Wallsend Road, along Castle Road, to Westham High Street junction with Eastbourne Road.
We are concerned about the high speeds of vehicles and size of heavy goods vehicles (HGV’s) travelling along this section of road creating a hazard for everyone in our whole community. As well as those attending the local school or visiting the area.
Current conditions do not adequately protect pedestrians.
The excessive vibration, traffic noise and reckless driving prevent residents from enjoying our neighbourhood safely and increases the risk of severe injury or fatality.
We therefore support the efforts of Pevensey Parish Council, Westham Parish Council and partner organisations to secure:
- A reduction of the speed limit from 30mph to 20mph along the affected section to improve pedestrian safety and reduce the risk of road traffic collisions.
- The introduction of a weight restriction for HGV’s to prevent further structural damage to Pevensey Castle, The Mint House and the area’s historic homes and buildings and to reduce vibration, noise and danger to pedestrians.
I consider that these measures are essential to protect our community, safeguard our historic environment and ensure that the road is safe for everyone who uses it.
By signing this petition, I support for these changes and ask East Sussex County Council to prioritise and implement them without delay.
