Breaking News...St. Michaels Church Now to Remain Open Until Late September

BREAKING NEWS… The new pastor for St. Michael’s Church, Fr. Jon Thomas announced yesterday that St. Mikes and St. Monica’s Churches will remain open for Mass on Sundays until late September. After Aug. 9 there will be one 11:00 am Mass each Sunday at St. Michaels. We are not certain why the change occurred but we are pleased. This delay gives us time to gather and strengthen support to keep St. Mikes open for the long term and prevent it from being sold. This gift of time is another call to all supporters who are local and national to do something more…show up! For supporters living in and around Atlantic City…we have eight Sundays beginning on Aug.16 to attend Mass and fill the 250 seats and the aisles at St. Mikes at the 11:00 am Mass. Bring families, invite friends, grandparents ..any and all. Vote with our feet to show the pastor and the Bishop how determined we are to save this 112 year Old Landmark. Let’s remember that St. Michaels is the place where we went to school and received our sacraments, an iconic shrine to the legacy of Italian-Americans, our spiritual home, the heart and soul of Ducktown. When you go to St. Mikes tell the priest how you feel, tell him you are there to keep St. Mikes open permanently and not just until late September and you want to be registered as a member of St. Mikes Church. For those of us who are not in the Atlantic City Area we can pledge our support with dollars and prayer. My brother Anthony will soon announce a pledge effort strictly tied to keeping St. Michaels open. Your pledges will be recorded and shared with the Bishop and only be activated when the Bishop agrees to leave St. Michaels Church open…forever. This short break may be providential. It is another chance to save an irreplaceable part of our lives not only for us but for the future. Do what you can and must do. Bobby V.
