Even More Masses! Save St. Mikes to Gather Support at Popular "Wedding Of The Sea" Event

From Aug. 16 until Sept. 27, the 300 parishioners and hundreds of visitors to St. Michaels Church will be able to celebrate Masses more frequently than expected. Masses will be held at the same times as before the July 1 closing of St. Michaels Church, on Saturdays at 4:15 pm and on Sundays at 9:00 am and 11:00 am. I think Pope Francis said recently, “God always surprises us.” 1500 persons are expected to attend the annual Wedding of the Sea event on Saturday Aug. 15. This centuries old Venetian tradition was reinstituted in Atlantic City by the Italian –American parishioners of St. Michael’s Parish over half century ago. The celebration is traditionally held on the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The Bishop will celebrate Mass in Convention Hall, followed by a procession of the Virgin Mary to the shores of the Ocean where Bishop Sullivan and the city Mayor will enter a boat for the traditional Blessing of the Sea. Save St. Mikes volunteers will be meeting with the media and gathering support throughout the day to keep St. Michael’s Church open forever. Deo Gratias!
