Petition Against the South Crest Ext.13 &14 Residential Development
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents and stakeholders of South Crest and Tulisa Park, strongly oppose the proposed development on Portion 592 of the Farm Elandsfontein 108 IR, South Crest, Alberton.
This project raises serious concerns regarding the safety, well-being, and long-term sustainability of our community.
The proposed development includes approximately 900 residential units, comprising 2 and 3 storey buildings as well as duplexes. The scale and density of this development are not aligned with the capacity of existing infrastructure and will place significant strain on the surrounding area.
Key concerns include:
- Deterioration of quality of life due to increased traffic congestion, noise, and environmental pollution.
- Severe pressure on already strained infrastructure and public services, including: Electricity supply, which is already experiencing interruptions, Water supply, Wastewater and sewage systems, Stormwater drainage and Waste collection services
- Existing infrastructure limitations, as evidenced by the current condition of roads, public spaces, and service delivery challenges
- Significant traffic impact, with congestion already a concern on major routes such as South Rand Road, Heidelberg Road, and Voortrekker Road, where traffic signals are frequently non-operational
- Inadequate road capacity for proposed access routes, including: Eeuwfees Street, which is proposed as a main access road but has already required recent resurfacing due to deterioration, particularly at the corner of Vlei Street. Tennyson Drive, which is also proposed as a main route but remains in poor condition, with potholes that are not effectively repaired and deteriorate further after rainfall
- Potential impact on underground water sources, including the risk of boreholes running dry
- Negative effect on property values and broader community stability
- Environmental harm, including the loss of green spaces and disruption to local ecosystems
- Erosion of the character and identity of the South Crest and Tulisa Park communities
Given these concerns, it is clear that the current infrastructure cannot sustain a development of this scale and density.
We therefore call upon the City Council, Planning Commission, and all relevant authorities to reject this development proposal.
We further urge decision-makers to prioritise responsible, sustainable, and community-focused development that aligns with the capacity of existing infrastructure and the needs of current residents.
By signing this petition, we unite in protecting the integrity, value, and future of our community, ensuring its preservation for generations to come.
All residents and affected parties of South Crest and Tulisa Park are urged to sign.
Together, we can stand for responsible development and safeguard the heart of South Crest.
