Petition Against the Opening of a Methadone Treatment Center at Woodlawn Shopping Center

The Issue

Dear Washco Woodlawn Village LLC, Concerted Care Group, and Government Officials,

We, the undersigned residents and concerned community members of the neighborhoods adjacent to the Woodlawn Shopping Center, are writing to express our strong opposition to the potential opening of a methadone Treatment Center within the premises. We respectfully request that you reconsider your decision to lease space to the treatment center and take into account the negative impact it may have on our neighborhood.

Our community has long been characterized by its tranquility and absence of major issues related to drug addiction, particularly heroin. While we recognize the importance of providing support and rehabilitation to individuals struggling with substance abuse, the proximity of a methadone treatment center to a daycare center and 3 public schools, raises significant concerns regarding the safety and well-being of the children.

We are deeply apprehensive about the potential risks associated with increased foot traffic from individuals struggling with addiction in close proximity to these schools and in our neighborhoods. Parents entrust the daycare center and schools with the care and security of their young ones, and we firmly believe that introducing a methadone treatment center within such proximity poses an unnecessary risk.

Furthermore, we are concerned about the potential negative impact on the overall ambiance and vitality of the Woodlawn Shopping Center. The presence of a methadone treatment center may deter families and other patrons from visiting the area, potentially leading to a decline in footfall for the surrounding businesses. This could have adverse effects on the livelihoods of the hardworking entrepreneurs who have invested their time, resources, and efforts into establishing their businesses within the complex. As well as the already struggling grocery store. A grocery store of only 2 within a 5 mile radius.

We too, are concerned for the wellbeing and success of the patients this treatment center intends to serve.  The currently sought location at the Woodlawn Shopping Center will share a parking lot and building structure with a Vape Shop and possibly a Brewery.  The proximity to these other businesses that sell products clinically known for their links to addiction does not provide the environment required by a rehabilitation treatment center.

In light of these concerns, we, the undersigned, respectfully request that you reconsider the decision to lease space to the methadone treatment center and engage in an open dialogue with the residents and business owners in our community. We believe that by working together, we can find alternative solutions that support the needs of individuals struggling with addiction without compromising the peace and harmony of our neighborhood.

We kindly ask that you give due consideration to our petition and act in the best interest of our community.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. We eagerly await your response and look forward to engaging in a constructive dialogue to find a resolution that benefits all stakeholders involved.
