We do not support the intense densification of Kirkland’s residential neighborhoods. We are against the changes to the Comprehensive Plan that permit 4-6 story buildings ¼ mile deep into our neighborhoods along identified "transit corridors".
As shown on the map, the changes radically increase density allowances for huge parts of Bridle Trails, South Rose Hill, North Rose Hill, the Highlands, Norkirk, Juanita, and virtually all of Totem Lake, Moss Bay, Everest, Lakeview, Central Houghton, and Market.
As proposed, developers will haphazardly fill these neighborhoods with four to six-story apartment buildings with minimal setbacks and significantly reduced parking requirements.
All Kirkland streets, most of which are already high volume, will suffer significantly higher traffic and increased on-street parking. Residential neighborhoods will endure higher cut-through traffic as people try to avoid clogged arteries. There WILL be issues with emergency vehicles navigating clogged roads. Nothing in the 2044 Comprehensive Plan addresses these concerns or improves any of Kirkland’s existing infrastructure to handle these issues.
Kirkland City Council will pass these changes to the Comprehensive Plan in December 2024. There will NEVER be a public vote on this issue. This is why we need your support NOW!
By signing this petition, we the undersigned request the Kirkland City Council REJECT ALL COMPREHENSIVE PLANS THAT SUPPORT RADICALLY INCREASED DENSITY IN OUR RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOODS.
