Bhola Gupta, Sanjai Gupta and Angela K Gupta are horrifying landlords in Raleigh, NC who own and operate 200+ single home properties. Bhola Gupta acquired most of these properties in the 1980's to early 2000's, where his family has inherited and run deplorable, crime ridden, and unethical rental practices. We need the support of the Raleigh community more than ever to help enforce change as crime continues to increase in and around his properties. Most of his properties can be considered a public nuisance, and threat to public health. 

The properties are in deplorable conditions, and often rented to individuals who promote criminal activity in the neighborhoods of Raleigh, NC. In some cases, tenants rent by the room and are not related to each other, and have committed crimes against one another and within the residential neighborhood they live in. Gupta’s properties also frequently violate many city code violations.

Real example 1: Tenants are non-related and max out housing space beyond the capacity/rooms of the home,  promoting violence and disputes among tenants. Stabbings, stealing other tenants belongings, and unsafe living conditions have resulted. There is a WRAL article detailing a specific dispute and stabbing among unrelated tenants. Previous tenants have described being placed in a pantry as a their room. 

Real example 2: Homes are used as a hub for other criminal activities such as drug dealing, and much more. Bringing increased crime to residential Raleigh neighborhoods. 

Examples of other frequent crimes committed within Gupta’s properties and his tenants have included: Occupancy violations, drug dealing, general violence, assault, home density code violations, animal abuse/neglect, harassment, stabbings, stolen guns, unlivable housing conditions, stolen belongings, and more. The properties entitled to Bhola, Angela and Sanjai Gupta handicap the city of Raleigh by promoting crime that severely disrupts the quality of life for many Raleigh Citizens. This activity is non-stop, and can be validated by police records, news articles, neighbor witnesses, etc.

If the city of Raleigh does not hold Bhola Gupta accountable, he will continue to foster a culture of crime in the neighborhoods of a Raleigh, and provide unsafe living conditions for the people who live in his properties. This petition is in support of any of the following initiatives that will prevent unethical and illegal rental practices, and to hold property owners accountable in mitigating tenant related crime:

• Designate problem properties in his portfolio as a public nuisance, and allow the city to have proper authority to take tactical action, i.e. seizing property and holding the property owner accountable.
• New local laws drafted by NC to prevent unlawful property management practices, occupancy, etc.
• Civil investigation and charges to be opened against Bhola, Sanjai, and Angela Gupta as well as Rhoda Realty and the Wilson G Banegas-Gupta Trust (by the City of Raleigh, State of NC or Federal Government)
• Criminal investigation and charges to be opened against Bhola, Sanjai, and Angela Gupta as well as Rhoda Realty and the Wilson G Banegas-Gupta Trust (by the City of Raleigh, State of NC or Federal Government) Federal Government.
• Close monitoring of Guptas illegal business practices, and rental business rental ring.
• (optional) Federal investigation for tax evasion, money schemes as he over-populates homes, only accepts cash for rent, has previous tenants citing stolen money, and takes advantage of people in desperate situations.
