I feel compelled to share a perspective and remind you to mark your calendar for 4/16 board meeting.
Amidst our differences, there exists a greater force that unites us. We’ve been conditioned to mistrust those who hold opposing views or appear unfamiliar—a survival instinct ingrained in us. Imagine stepping beyond our comfort zones, extending compassion, empathy, respect. And collaborating to identify problems and to find solutions... together as a community.
In a polarized landscape, we often forget that it’s okay not to align 100% with one side. Labels have divided us for far too long. Power doesn’t hinge on choosing a specific group.
Our shared goal here is the quality of education for our children and transparency from the district. And we can get there as a united community.
It starts with providing resources and empowering our teachers—the boots on the ground. Along with supporting the school staff and all the involved, engaged and volunteering parents.
The community begins there, not with distant superintendents or board members at 30,000 feet.
It's important to note, the board of education has played a role in shaping our district’s path over the past three years. Each board member wields voting power and has tools at their disposal to advocate for transparency. Our elected officials, too, serve as negotiators, breaking down barriers with their counterparts to ensure the best interests of the people they represent.
Transparency from the district and the board, along with addressing parents feedback, are the first steps. The district must prioritize making the community feel heard, addressing concerns rather than alienating them. Simultaneously, the board’s responsibility lies in overseeing the district’s execution of a collaborative plan—one that guarantees high quality education, empowers teachers, allocates resources to the schools, and addresses parents’ feedback.
With that I remind you, the next board meeting on Tuesday April 16 2024 at 6pm at the District Office - Online or In-Person. Closer to date I will post with more details on how to request to speak (either on zoom or in person), and I will include the link to agenda and Zoom.
