I, declare that I fully agree with statement issued by the Malta Development Association on 18 September 2024, about the mandatory attestation by a notary, lawyer or legal procurator, of lease agreements presented as part of an application for a residence permit by third country nationals.

I declare my position against the new Attestation Form directive issued by Identita’, mainly for the following reasons:

1.     It adds additional work for landlords leasing accommodation to third country nationals.

2.     It imposes additional new costs in fees payable to notaries, lawyers and/or legal procurators. 

3.     It adds inefficiencies and more bureaucracy to a sector that is already heavily burdened with many other requirements.

4.     There are other measures already in place that are giving the same or better results for all stakeholders.
