Petition Against Hate Campaign, Instigation of Violence by Self-Serving Politicians in Kogi State

We, concerned citizens of Kogi State, hereby petition against the barbaric ethnic campaign of calumny by a few individuals in the state, aimed at sowing seeds of discord and division among the tribes of Okun, Igala, and Ebira.

We believe in unity, equality, and politics free from ethnic bias, and are deeply concerned about the deliberate egocentric misinformation by a few individuals, who have continued to inadvertently paint an advanced and highly respected Igala land in the wrong colours while establishing a birthright solely for the Igala people in the scheme of governance in the state.

It is disheartening that these few hate campaigners, instead of  constructive politics that will not insult the sensibilities of other tribes that have coexisted peacefully under the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello, are instead, portraying other tribes as inferior or "second-class citizens" in our collective state.

It is evident that these individuals are driven by self-aggrandizement and greed, with a desire to access our commonwealth unchecked. Igala people are too advanced for the kind of destructive politics being played by these few desperate individuals and, on behalf of the teeming, highly respected, and right-thinking Igala sons and daughters, we dissociate ourselves completely from the ignoble acts of these self-serving elements.
We also reject their divisive politics and will do everything to work towards the greater good of our entire state.

While they continue to sow seeds of conflict, highly respected individuals within the Igala land who are genuinely concerned about the growth and development of their kinsmen, are actively building bridges and striving for unity in the land.

The recent attack on the state governor's convoy and the glaring disrespect for the seal of authority in the state reflect the desperation of self-centred politicians and their plan to attract unmerited sentiments to their myopic cause.

We strongly condemn this attack and urge the police to thoroughly investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Additionally, we call upon all security agencies in the state to swiftly apprehend those responsible for attacking government properties and damaging our collective property in Igala land, thereby setting us back in terms of development in the region.

These acts of violence and destruction must be stopped, and the culprits must face the consequences of their actions.

It is clear that these individuals are seeking to revive an outdated colonial order in Kogi State, where tribes were "divided and conquered."

This seemingly tactless campaign of calumny by these few elements within the fold does not align with the true spirit of the Igala people, known for their first class brains and wisdom.

Has the current administration, led by Governor Yahaya Bello, prioritised any tribe over the other, ensured fair distribution of resources without bias, and brought development to all regions of the state equally? These questions should guide the discuss on the 2023 Governorship elections.

To save our state from the hands of a few self-serving political actors who are painting the wrong picture of responsible citizens of Kogi State, we call for the following actions:

•Security agencies should swiftly investigate the attack on Governor Yahaya Bello's convoy and the disrespect for the seal of authority in the state and bring perpetrators to justice.

• Appropriate authorities should caution political parties against projecting hate campaigns and tribal sentiments capable of causing violence over real issues affecting the state. Established defaulters should be penalised heavily.

•The Inspector General of Police should order the arrest and prosecution of sponsors of the destruction of government properties in Igala land aimed at reversing the development of the local government areas in the kingdom.

Please sign this petition if you are against hate campaign-induced violence and disunity in Kogi State.
