PETITION AGAINST DR ABU CONTEH AS SLAA INTERIM PRESIDENT

PETITION AGAINST DR ABU CONTEH AS SLAA INTERIM PRESIDENT
The Issue
We, the undersigned members of the Sierra Leone Association of Alberta, (SLAA) are writing
this petition to express our collective disagreement and deep concern regarding the recent court ruling and order dated on Tuesday March 25th 2025, at the court of King’s Bench Edmonton Ab, Canada.
While we respect the judges ruling, we the Sierra Leone Association of Alberta (SLAA) members do not want Abu Conteh as the interim caretaker president of SLAA, however being that the court has appointed Abu Conteh as the interim caretaker president without prejudice basis until the next SLAA Annual Meeting to assist us with the interim process and serve as an interim body until the next Annual General Meeting as provided by the court. We would like Justice Davis to provide an order that clearly states the names of all of the executives that
worked with Abu Conteh prior to and leading to the elections remain as the executive as in the
bylaw of 2015. During the election, some of the executive members of Abu Conteh did not
support his candidate of choice and because of this; we believe that he intends to change or
restrict some members of those executive members which will only enable him to further carry out his nefarious agenda of subverting the will of the people to his will.
We would also recommend that the Justice ensures that the current Executive members who are signatories on the SLAA bank account remain as authorized signatories to the SLAA bank account and not be changed by Abu
Conteh. We believe that if these provisions are added to the order, it will help the community to
have a smooth transition.
Alternatively, we would prefer to have a neutral outside body like the African Center or other community organizations like the Liberian Friendship Society or the Guinean Community helping with the AGM elections process or even serve as interim body.
Please accept this petition as a unified stand of the people of the Sierra Leone Association of
Alberta, who care deeply about the future of our community and the values we strive to uphold.
