Petition Against Defunding Te Tira Ahu Pae, the Massey University Students' Association

The issue

TAKE A STAND

Massey University's sudden decision to cut 2025 funding for Te Tira Ahu Pae, the Students' Association, will negatively impact student morale, participation, and community engagement and must be reversed.

Te Tira Ahu Pae is an essential platform that nurtures, empowers, and gives a voice to the diverse student body of Massey University. It is run by students and supporting staff that provide integral services which include advocacy, representation, events, clubs and societies, and media - Radio Control and Massive Magazine. Instead of renewing the funding that allows Te Tira Ahu Pae to offer these services and facilitate cultural and social events, Massey University has decided to internally contract these services for 2025.

This is deeply concerning, as the independence of the association is an essential aspect of providing students conflict-free support and fostering a space for student voices to be freely represented that remains ungoverned by the university. We believe a collaborative transparent approach to fixing any issues is necessary, but student services must remain in the hands of students themselves during the process.

Read what the Te Tira Ahu Pae Board has to say and join us in urging Massey University to reinstate funding for our students' association, Te Tira Ahu Pae. Please sign this petition and support our student community.
