We, the residents of Chino, do not want a 400 mega-watt battery storage facility built and operated near our homes, our schools nor our parks.  The proposed facility between Oaks Ave. and Benson Ave., just north of the SCE substation at 13925 Benson Ave., is one such project.

This facility poses several potential risks.  Safety concerns include thermal runaway, fire and chemical leakage.  Environmental issues come from smoke containing toxic chemicals and burning metals, noise pollution from industrial fans, and contaminated water run-off from the water used to cool the battery units.  Economically, we could suffer from home value depreciation and insurance price hikes, and increased prices on electricity and water.

On July15th, many Chino residents spoke out against this project at the Planning Commission meeting, and the Commission voted the project down by a vote of 4-3.  The applicant, Aypa Power, appealed that decision.  On September 15th, the City Council will meet and decide whether to uphold the Planning Commission’s decision or overturn it.
