Petition Against Above Guideline Rent Increase - 55 Lisgar St, Toronto

Petition Against Above Guideline Rent Increase - 55 Lisgar St, Toronto
The Issue
• We SUPPORT the Landlord, Medallion Corporation’s obligation to provide and maintain 55 Lisgar Street, Toronto in a good state of repair, fit for habitation and to comply with health, safety, housing, and maintenance standards.
• We OPPOSE the application by Medallion Corporation for an above guideline rent increase.
• We OPPOSE any retrospective rental increase.
We tenants and those in support of this petition oppose the AGI application by Medallion Corporation as the repairs and maintenance done to the building should fall under regular upkeep of the building/property.
The lighting fixtures being changed to LED lights will help save the property management money not the tenants.
The maintenance of the heated ramp is for safety and not luxury and a majority of those affected by this increase don’t drive or utilize the underground parking.
We have continued to deal with other issues in the building that require attention. Tenants had lost access to their mailboxes from November 23, 2023 due to tampering and vandalism- Canada Post stated they would not continue servicing the building until a camera was installed. This has only been rectified recently in 2024.
The fire alarms have gone off sometimes repeatedly in a night, even the fire department states there is something faulty with the system and it hasn’t been addressed. The elevators when grounded due to the alarm were often not reset right away causing them to be grounded for the following day. And in often cases, the elevator goes out of service with the building claiming “waiting for parts”.
Please sign this petition in support of the 55 Lisgar St tenants affected by this potential increase which also includes a retrospective increase dating back to March of 2022.
