PETITION – 4116/24/OPA Land at SX 656 522, Barrack Road, Modbury
The Issue
We, the undersigned, object to the proposal to use Lanveoc Way as the access point for construction traffic and as
the primary access route for the proposed development at Palm Cross.
The junction of Lanveoc Way and the A379 is dangerous and wholly unsuitable for both construction traffic and the
significant increase in daily vehicle movements that would result from this development.
Key Safety Concerns
• A blind bend immediately to the west of the junction.
• A blind bend and brow of a hill on the approach from the east, severely restricting visibility.
• An uncontrolled pedestrian crossing directly adjacent to the junction.
• Two bus stops in close proximity, increasing pedestrian and vehicle movements.
• Permanently parked vehicles on Lanveoc Way, frequently reducing access to a single carriageway.
• Vehicles entering from the west are often forced to stop while vehicles exit, leaving vehicles straddling the A379.
• The A379 is a busy arterial route with traffic levels increasing year on year.
Traffic Impact
The proposal includes 75 additional dwellings, in addition to the 133 existing homes already served by this
access. Using a conservative estimate of 1.5 vehicles per household, this would generate over 200 additional
daily vehicle movements, excluding deliveries and construction traffic.
Residential Impact
The estate roads are narrow residential streets and were not designed to accommodate heavy goods vehicles.
Increased construction and service traffic would pose an unacceptable risk to residents, pedestrians, and cyclists.
Declaration
By signing below, we confirm our objection to this proposal and urge South Hams District Council to reconsider the access arrangements for this development.
