Allow out-of-state adoptable pet postings on Petfinder

The Issue

Petfinder.com has disabled the accounts of animal rescue groups who post animals for adoption outside of the state in which they are being fostered. This directly affects thousands of homeless animals by restricting them to narrow adoption areas which are already saturated with homeless pets and not enough adoptive homes.

Animal welfare organizations like Best Friends Animal Society, Adopt-A-Pet and Rescue Me have recognized that out of state adoptions are an effective way to reduce the number of homeless pets that are euthanized due to lack of adoptive homes in their immediate area. News organizations such as NPR and CBS have reported on the "Rescue Animal Shortage" in areas of the country like the Northeast while at the same time highlighting organizations such as Rescue Road Trips and Pilots for Paws who facilitate out of state adoptions in order to save more lives. Thousands of pets have been given a second chance at life through out-of-state adoptions as groups in areas where the homeless pet population is high have successfully rehomed them to responsible, loving pet parents across the country.

Numerous individuals who volunteer for rescue groups with very active followings across America have reached out to Petfinder to ask for a change in policy, but they have been met with pre-formatted responses or silence. We need our supporters to add their voices to the cause to tell Petfinder that it's not acceptable to restrict a powerful tool that saves lives.

Sign this petition to encourage Petfinder to reinstate accounts and allow out of state postings in order to meet the mission of reducing the number of homeless pets who are killed before they have a second chance at a loving home. This also benefits adoptive families by giving them a higher selection of pets in order to find the right fit for their family. If Petfinder does not reinstate this accounts and allow out of state postings, euthanasia will rise and homeless animals which could have found homes out of the states they were born in will die.
