Yale is named for "Elihu Yale," a slave trader. While there is a larger discussion that needs to be had to change the name of the the University, we should begin with eliminating "Elihu" from Yale's fight song as the first name is more correlated with slavery than "Yale," which has mostly transcended the original namesake. The fight song contains the lyrics "Eli Yale," however the casual listener may hear this as "We are Yale." The latter lyric is more inclusive of Yale's community, does not contain asinine references, and is already known as the unofficial chorus. It should become the official words of the fight song.

In addition, the song also contains the sexist reference "When the sons of Eli," which should be replaced in favor of another line. Attached is a better version of the song down below that should, at the very least, open up discussion to what these lines should say. 

Additionally, the "EliApps" webmail must also be renamed to better reflect Yale's message. The Eli Whitney program for nontraditional students must be updated as referencing the person who stole the idea of the cotton gin from a slave is not appropriate to serve as the name for what is supposed to be a welcoming program.
