Dear Mr. MacKay & Colleagues: 

As truly horrific as it is, the vast majority of animal shelters are kill shelters.  Some people call it overpopulation euthanasia.  I call it the senseless deaths of thousands upon thousands of kittens, cats, puppies, dogs, and other animals.  You don't need to kill innocent kittens because you have no room for them.  Considering the success and effectiveness of no-kill shelters, there is no logical reason to continue this chilling practice.  If you would like an example, please have a look at the Burlington Humane Society.  

For years, I have turned my head the other way and pretended that this is not an issue because it was just too horrific to face.  But now I've had enough, and we need to stop this right now.  We would like to ask that you develop a new animals rights bill that will make it illegal and criminally punishable to euthanize animals for reasons other than terminal illness.  

Please, to Mr. MacKay and your colleagues, save these animals.  Pets deserve a chance at life just like the rest of us.
