Ban Methidathion use in Australia!

This petition had 1,423 supporters

Methidathion is an extremely harmful insecticide used on  a variety of nuts, citrus, stone fruits, olive, seed varieties and cotton. It has been proven to cause respiratory problems, paralysis, muscle twitching, blurred vision and many more symptoms of poisoning. And it is also believed to cause liver cancer. The people that are harvesting and working with the crops are obviously the most exposed to Methidathion. But. You also may be exposed to Methidathion. It is known to have a very high residue on crops, therefore exposing it's toxins to everyday users. As well as this, it had been found that acute and chronic risks are of concern to birds, mammals and aquatic species. Methidathion may pose risks to beneficial insects that may be present at the treated area on an acute contact basis.

Methidathion is based on outdated, old chemical science. There are many more less harmful alternative products on the market that can be used instead. Yet, lots of farmers are still using Methidathion.

With your help, by signing this petition, once we reach a reasonable amount of signatures we will present it to a politician or another form of authority to help us ban Methidathion use in Australia.
