Western Rail Trail
Mar 10, 2017
Once again a massive thank you to the 420 committed signatures on our petition for equal access to a public utility in Kiltimagh. Many of you have already signed our other petition asking for a greenway all the way from Sligo to Athenry on the closed railway. This is what we call the Western Rail Trail, following the route of the closed railway which everyone knows will not be opened anytime soon. In fact with the Kiltimagh IRD apparently getting a 12 year lease to privatise the public facility using public funds we now know the railway is on the backburner for at least 12 years. Imagine if the greenway we want for Kiltimagh connected with Sligo to the north and Galway to the south, and if the Dublin – Galway greenway was connected to the Western Rail Trail at Athenry, and then a link was built to the Castlebar –Turlough Greenway and then on to the Great Western Greenway Tourists could cycle off road from Dublin to Achill! They have to stop for a beer a meal and nights sleep at some stage! This is what Mayo county council don’t understand. The Big Picture. You do. If you haven’t signed the overall Western Rail Trail petition yet (as well as the local Kiltimagh petition) then please do. Nearly 1700 people have so far and we want to get it to 2,000. Our voice is one Voice. One strong voice. Thanks. Brendan.
