Abolishing Child Marriage in Nebraska

Abolishing Child Marriage in Nebraska
The Issue
Usually marriage in the US is a sacred bond between two people. Your wedding day is a day that is supposed to be memorable and special, but what if you are stressing over the Middle or High School exam the day after your special day? Child marriage is the marriage between two people in which one is younger than 18 years of age, and has terrible effects on the children involved. Many children will drop out of school, will never see their parents or siblings again, and have a higher rate of divorce, dying during child birth and being abused by their spouses. Though many parents would not let their young child get married, that is not the case for all parents. Circumstances like religion, teen pregnancy, and sexual exploitation like selling their child to sex trafficking. This is no way for a child to live.
In order to allow children and teenagers to live happy and healthy lives, we must abolish child marriage in all fifty states. Currently, the state of Nebraska has the minimum age of child marriage set at 17 with parental consent, and though that is a lot better than some states, no child should be able to get married.
As of right now, the year 2020, there are only four states that have completely abolished child marriage: Delaware, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and New Jersey. Now is the time to change that four to fifty. Please sign this petition to encourage the governor and state senators of Nebraska to completely abolish child marriage, and inspire other states to follow in our footsteps.
We need your help to abolish child marriage in Nebraska, and the rest of The United States. Please sign this petition to abolish child marriage and make it illegal to get married under the age of 19.
Thank you!
