PetSmart throws out bags and cans of food daily on the "sell by" date when it could easily be donated to local shelters to be used in the next week or two.

It is sickening that shelters have to ask for money donations from people and rely on those donations to feed the animals that are kept there, and sometimes may not get the donations they need every week to keep the animals fed.
If PetSmart and Petco would donate the food on the date that is posted on the food items, they would be used immediately and be greatly appreciated!
