Not only has the company failed completely, in hiring educated staff with even a bare minimum knowledge in keeping and maintaining the animals available in PETCO for purchase, but the employees that have been hired, do nothing to provide proper care for the animals they do have experience with. Just as well, the company itself is incapable of providing healthy animals for sale to the general public. Every time I walk into a PETCO store, I see dead or dying animals in every cage. It is because of this that animal rights groups such as HSUS and PETA and the ASPCA run around spilling lies about the reptile community. We in the pet community FIRMLY believe PETCO should ONLY sell supplies, because there has never been a time in the chain's history when employees have properly maintained the animals for sale, nor has there been any time in the history of PETCO when there has been a healthy reptile, amphibian or rodent for sale, even the fish are hit and miss with health, mostly miss. It is imperative that PETCO CEASE all sales and dealings in live animals, not only is it harmful for the animals in question, but it is harmful to the little kids that frequent the store and buy a fish or a lizard.....only to have it die the next day because they were sold an animal in poor health. Please Petco, stop selling live animals in all of your stores, it is not good for the animals, pet community, or the reputation of the store chain as a whole.
