As you may have heard, the Petaluma City Council finally approved the project. At long last, affordable gas and new union jobs are coming to Petaluma! Thank you again for taking the time to sign our petition and to voice your support for the project! Your efforts helped get us this approval and we are very appreciative! The City Council’s vote was validation of Safeway consistently following the law with fact-based science. Behind the scenes, we obtained almost 6,000 pages of public records regarding the project, including a significant amount of internal No Gas Here correspondence. We saw, among other things, how (i) rival gas stations communicated with the City before our application was even submitted, (ii) misinformation about the health and safety of the project was disseminated, and (iii) No Gas Here had no basis to oppose the project and therefore focused on a negative PR campaign against Safeway. The approval process is very likely complete, although there is a small chance that opponents will try to file a frivolous lawsuit against the project. We are confident that any such lawsuit would be unsuccessful given that the facts and law are clearly on the side of Safeway.
