During the COVID-19 pandemic many of us have experienced for a short period what it feels like to be locked in isolation and stuck in the same place 24/7. This is what many animals in zoos and theme parks (such as Sea World) endure day and night for the rest of their lives.

These animals are locked in cages or stuck in small rooms or areas where their space and mobility is limited. They are unable to move freely or even feel the natural warmth of the sun. They are stuck in artificial environments where they are unable to experience the joy of rain or enjoy dome fresh air. 

All these things that you took for granted and were temporarily taken away from you, have been taken away from millions of animals around the world. How did it make you feel? In this brief period, you have experienced what many animals have lived and experienced throughout their lives. You have experienced what it feels like to suddenly lose your freedom and be confined to a small area/space for a period of time.

Throughout the decades we have become more conscious and compassionate human beings. We have learned that many things that were acceptable in the past are no longer ethical and acceptable in our modern time. Let's make a change for the better. Let's give animals their freedom. Let's let them roam in open land. Let's let them feel the sun, wind, rain and fresh air. Let's change the structure of zoos. No more cages, confined spaces or rooms. No more swimming pools for whales, whale sharks and dolphins.

We know these animals cannot be released back into the wild, but we can create environments that are as close as possible to their natural environments. We can change the layout and structure of zoos and keep them free of cages and confined spaces. No animal should be behind a looking glass. 

Let's think of new innovative ways of coexisting with our fellow land and sea friends and stop sacrificing their freedom for our benefit. We can all make a difference and make changes for the better if we get together.
